One of the first phrases that Mark Witherspoon, my editorial adviser at the Iowa State Daily, told me was to be fair, complete and accurate. As a multimedia journalist, I always strive to do just that in the gathering, creation and publishing of the content I produce.

In addition, here are more values I aim to live by through my job as a multimedia journalist.

I will be a good person before being a good journalist.

I will listen first and shoot second.

I will respect my sources and not judge.

I will have an open mind and consider all sides to a topic.

I will present the audience with facts and not my own opinions and beliefs.

I will fact-check every piece of content I produce.

I will not publish content until I’m confident that it’s as accurate as possible.

I will work hard to build trust with both my sources and my audience.

I will stand up for my content.

I will take responsibility for my actions.

I will work hard to complete every assignment, by deadline.

I will accept and listen to constructive criticism about my work.

I will take pride in the work I create.
